Memory Support Service Group Volunteer

Hours: 2/3 hours per week

Location: Countywide

Description:

Hertswise is a service designed to support people living with early on set dementia or mild cognitive impairments along with their carers using the 5 steps to mental wellbeing in one 2 one and community group settings.

We are looking for volunteers to support our locality workers in running community based groups for people living with dementia and their carers.

Main tasks:

  • Set up and clear room for the group including teas/coffees
  • Welcome service users to the group and ensure they are comfortable
  • Engage with clients through talking and active listening and supporting service users in taking part in activities being done.
  • Signpost service users to any other services that they may be interested in or that may help them in their current situation
  • Report any safeguarding issues immediately to the locality worker
  • Debrief with locality worker after each session

Volunteers are required to provide an enhanced disclosure. The disclosure will be processed by HILS and you will be required to complete the application form and provide the necessary ID documents.

Dementia Fun Club Volunteer

Hours: Variable

Location: St. Albans

Description:

Are you a kind, caring person? Are you looking to become a volunteer to provide support for people living with Dementia? Then why not join our Dementia Fun Clubs and become a part of our community. We have clubs based at our Jubilee Centre on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays.

    Nutrition and Wellbeing Steering Group Member

    Reference: NW-SG

    Hours: One meeting per year, ad-hoc contact to review material

    Description:

    This role is a voluntary position. As a member of the steering group, you will:

    • Primarily support the development of our unique nutrition and wellbeing screening service
    • Provide governance and support in relation to nutrition and wellbeing initiatives
    • Offer knowledge and expertise in supporting the development of procedures
    • Support HILS core values (caring, communication, conscientious, cost efficiency, community and creativity)
    • Advise on specific small projects in line with your skills, expertise and time available

    You will need to:

    • Have work experience in the field of health and wellbeing, such as dietetics, nutrition, nursing, speech and language therapy (dysphagia specialism), mental health issues affecting older adults, neurological conditions, social work and wellbeing
    • Have a strong interest in supporting older and vulnerable people in remaining independent in their own homes

    Are you a student working in health, nutrition or dietetics wanting to gain valuable relevant experience around your studies?

    Our Nutrition and Wellbeing team offer volunteering student placements ranging from 80 hours to one year.
