There is ever increasing need for help and support for older and vulnerable people. By 2037, 22.5% of Hertfordshire’s population will be over 65. HILS recognises that there is more that could be done to support this age group. Each year, we support campaigns and events that seek to improve the lives of older and vulnerable people in the UK.

We also support other local organisations and run campaigns ourselves.

National Meals on Wheels Week

This week raises the profile and awareness of meals and wheels across the country. It is run by the National Association of Care Catering. Every year, HILS invites local VIPs, media, and Hertfordshire County Council staff to join our Community Team on their rounds and meet our clients.

Nutrition & Hydration Week

This week highlights the importance of good nutrition and hydration worldwide and celebrates great work and new innovations. HILS, and our own Nutrition and Wellbeing Team, run a number of events to mark this week every year.

HILS Christmas Card Project

In 2015, HILS wrote to every primary school in Hertfordshire asking if their pupils would like to create Christmas cards to our clients. We had a phenomenal response: over 4,000 primary school children wrote cards for our meals clients.

Following this successful project, our CEO Sarah has spoken at many assemblies at the schools that took part. The assemblies explain the challenges faced by older people and the importance of community and family.

No More Lonely Herts

The No More Lonely Herts project aims to identify older people in our local communities who may not have the chance to get out often and offer them the opportunity to come together for a range of social events throughout the year.

We are working in partnership (with Quantum Care, Age UK Hertfordshire, and Contact the Elderly) to deliver this project, and we all have the same goal in mind: to help older people in Hertfordshire to meet people, make new friends and have the opportunity to get out and about. We hope that you will come and join us at our events and we look forward to meeting you soon!
